A wind powered car factory…?
Well nearly.
This is our second Merchant Wind Power scheme. We built it at Ford’s place in Dagenham. It doesn’t power the whole site, just the diesel engine factory – 100% from wind energy with just two large windmills!
Since April 2004, anyone driving a new Ford diesel car or van has an engine under the bonnet built entirely using wind energy. Not many people know this…
Demand for Ford’s smaller diesel engines has grown considerably since then (maybe the secret’s out!) and the factory has been expanded, requiring more green electricity to run it.
A third machine is scheduled for 2009.
When big businesses depend on wind energy like this for major parts of their operations, it lends real credibility to the cause.
These are London’s first windmills and easily visible from the London Eye, not to mention the A13.
