We have made a joint decision with the club not to take the Manchester City Stadium Wind Turbine project any further.
It’s solely down to the fact that we can’t be certain there won’t be a problem at some point in the future. We initiated studies earlier this year into the possibility of ice falling from the turbine blades and its possible impact on public safety. We’ve been working closely with the Club on this issue and ways to reduce this very remote risk – we are talking one-in-a-million levels - but at the end of the day we don’t feel that we can accept even this small level of risk. We don't feel the risk to the public, to the reputation of the club, to Ecotricity and to wind energy - is worth taking.
We've really enjoyed working with the Club on this, they’re great guys, and we hope to build some turbines around Manchester soon.
