Are wind turbines unpopular? No. This is a myth upheld by a small but vociferous minority of anti-wind campaigners. In reality opinion surveys report quite the contrary. Since 1990, there have been over 14 independent opinion polls undertaken to sample local opinion towards wind power in the UK. The surveys consistently show a clear majority in favour of wind power, with 8 out of 10 people supporting their local wind farm. Conventional wind turbines create sound through their moving parts, that is the blades passing through the air and the sound made by the gearbox and generator. We install direct drive, variable speed wind turbines, manufactured by Enercon in Germany. These state of the art machines have no gearbox or drive train makes them quieter than conventional machines as they don't produce mechanical or tonal noise. Wind turbines do not usually damage local tourism; in fact quite the opposite. The UK's first commercial wind farm saw 350,000 visitors in its first 8 year of operation. Our Swaffham wind turbine has attracted over 50,000 visitors who have climbed its unique 65m high viewing platform. Surveys have consistently shown a high level of interest and support for wind turbines within popular landscapes. A recent Scottish MORI study showed 91% would not be put off revisiting an area if wind farms were present and 80% would be interested in visiting a wind farm if they were publicly accessible.
